Welcome Prof. C.A. Pellegrini

Attenzione: apre in una nuova finestra.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the beautiful shores of the Lago di Como to be part of the 11th World Congress of OESO.

The program which follows represents the combined work of the 35 committees and 19 different disciplines which make up the current structure of this unique organization, and as such the quality and depth of the material presented here is without parallel.

In addition to the question-and-answer format of the ten Plenary Sessions which have formed the traditional core of past OESO Congresses, here in Como there are 10 Symposia, 10 Topic Fora, 10 Special Sessions, and 4 Grand Fora, such that the esophagus is truly covered from end-to-end, so to speak, and in every aspect.

In addition to these, the Post-Graduate Course which begins the Congress presents a very practical array of clinical topics which both newer students of esophagology and seasoned veterans of this field will find interesting and valuable.

It is particularly meaningful that so many of you have come from far and wide despite the challenging economic times we currently face around the world.

The conversations that will occur, the contacts that will be made, and the new ideas that will be born here over the next four days will be proof of the inestimable value of this meeting.

When our time here is done, we will return to our home countries, cities, and institutions with greater knowledge and understanding as well as inspiration for the future.

Thus, in the words of the great Roman naturalist Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the Elder), who was born in Como, “from the end spring new beginnings.” I invite you to learn, enjoy, and to create; and the next time we come together, we will build even further upon what we do here in Como.

Sincerely,

Carlos A. Pellegrini
